vltava_2.jpg Vltava, the longest river of the Czech Republic, has its start in Bohemian Forest. Length of Vltava is 430 km and forms a water system backbone of Czech Republic. Its name has been lost at the confluence with river Elbe. Vltava springs can be found at the foot of the Black Mountain (Černá hora) and stand at a height of 1172 meters above sea level. The river starts of as the Black brook (Černý potok), later the Black brook becomes the Warm Vltava (Teplá Vltava) near to the village Borová Lada. The river Vltava gets it's name after confluence of the Warm and Cold Vltava.

The middle stream of the Vltava, the section Soumarský most - to most u Pěkné can be boated according to Visitor Rules in National Park of Šumava. I.e. boating time (1.5.-31.10.) at 8.00 -20.00 h., the bottom level of boating is between 50 cm - 61 cm and more on hydrograph in Soumarský most, therefore the System of registry for boats is required, the number of boats is daily limited between 81 -108. Section for Nové Pece is not limited by Visitor Rules of NP. River section from Lipno I dam (9 km) is closed to the public and is only opened to sporting events.

Lower stream of Vltava is most popular section of river due to minimal flow which is guaranteed all the year. Most of the visitors start boating in Vyšší Brod and end in Boršov nad Vltavou. This river section is long 71 km. During summer holiday we can suprisingly meet on Vltava approx. 1500 visitors/ day.
